Lyric: *said in a slow tone* "Look I slowed it down abit, and if you flow like this then you shouldn't be proud of it, you need to bounce on the beat, you've got no bars you're like an ounce on the beat" It doesn't matter if you have to look a little underground to find 'real' music as it can be done. A generic artist can no longer go platinum with a standard album, which I see as a good thing - quality is finally being realised. Lets face it, the golden era of the late 90's-early 00's is over. For such a young genre, the sound is bound to change, and it has. This year will see Lupe Fiasco's 'L.A.S.E.R.S' and a colaboration album between Nas and Damien Marley - which should be good, not to mention The Game's final album which could be ok and a Chamillionaire album which is generally ok.īut hip hop is not dieing. But I think you're right about the BluePrint 3, it was a let down. Infact even the Last Kiss was a good album in my opinion, not to mention we saw some classic 50 cent, which is what it is and the introduction to Kid Cudi, whose 'man on the moon' was good in my opinion. Budden and Slaughterhouse also offered original hip hop which was good to see. Sasha Fierce.Hip hop isn't dead and neither is it dieing.Last year saw the Relapse, which was a very clever album. Foxx’s “Intuition” was a solid effort with a couple of major singles (“She Got Her Own” and “Blame It”), but it’s unlikely that anyone can trounce Beyonce’s “I Am. Pleasure P and Trey Songz have considerable talent, but this is really a competition between Beyonce and Jamie Foxx. The fact that T-Pain’s gaudy “Thr33 Ringz” was nominated is cause to laugh or cry, depending on how you look at it. Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings” got the recognition it deserved here, but it won’t beat Beyonce’s innovative super-anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” was a club smash, though it’s hard to call an ode to alcohol-induced irresponsibility a shining success. Pleasure P’s “Under” is pleasurable, and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” showcases her firecracker potential. Hey, the NBA co-signed it, so why shouldn’t the Grammys? Kid Cudi’s “Make Her Say” with Kanye and Common utilizes a smart sample of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” for a vulgar-yet-amusing exercise in sexual gratification, but the award deserves to – and will – go to Kanye’s “Amazing,” featuring Young Jeezy. Fabolous’ “Money Goes, Honey Stay” featuring Jay-Z? Smooth but uninspiring. Nas and the Beastie Boys bring legitimacy and legendary status in “Too Many Rappers,” but the production was too abrasive. The Grammys love Eminem, but “Crack a Bottle,” featuring 50 Cent and Dr. Beyonce could steal a trophy with “Ego,” featuring Kanye West, just because she’s Beyonce, but the song is almost as boring as Jay-Z’s “Run This Town.” That makes it a tossup between Keri Hilson’s smash “Knock You Down,” featuring Kanye and Ne-Yo, and T.I.’s “Dead and Gone,” featuring Justin Timberlake. The Lonely Island’s T-Pain-assisted parody, “I’m On a Boat,” is truly awesome, but not likely to win a Grammy. But let’s talk music, not hype: T.I.’s haunting, lyrically-dense “Dead and Gone,” featuring Justin Timberlake, nabs this songwriters’ award. Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” was a breakthrough smash that flooded radio stations and nightclubs. (Death of Auto-Tune)” and “Run This Town” weren’t his best songs ever, though the latter wielded massive star power in Rihanna and Kanye West, and the former featured a long-overdue message of laying robo-rap to rest. Kid Cudi’s mesmerizing “Day ’N’ Nite” was everywhere. The most thorough album of the bunch, Q-Tip’s “The Renaissance,” should win, as the former A Tribe Called Quest wordsmith proves his mettle in middle age. Common’s “Universal Mind Control” and Mos Def’s “The Ecstatic” both flashed moments of brilliance, but were plagued by inconsistency. That aside, it’s good to see Eminem making music again, but hard to consider “Relapse” on par with his earlier material. Let’s ignore the sad fact that Flo Rida’s “R.O.O.T.S.” was nominated for this award. Gazing into my crystal ball, I see Grammy rap and r & b winners.
